QuitoDAY 1: DEPARTURE FLIGHT – Monday
Departure and flight to Quito with private transfer to hotel.

DAY 2: QUITO – Tuesday
Leisure time. Exclusive transportation and English-speaking guide upon request.  The atmosphere of the historical center of Quito takes the visitor back in time to the age of the Spanish Conquest as stops are made at the magnificent Jesuit and Franciscan churches, the plazas, and the Government Palace. The colonial center of Quito, which has been meticulously restored, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For a pleasant early evening experience not far from downtown, we suggest an excursion to the new scenic cable car, which can be easily arrived at by taxi.  The cable car, which reaches an altitude of 4100 m. above sea level, over the Pichincha volcano, offers a spectacular view of the summits of the many Andean volcanoes that surround Quito.

Mercato AndinoDAY 3: OTAVALO – Wednesday
Departure at 9:00 am in private chauffeur driven transportation to the beautiful province of Imbabura. During the trip, weather permitting, the majestic mountaintops of the Cayambe, Imbabura and the Cotacachi can be admired. After passing beautiful San Pablo Lake, visitors arrive at Otavalo. This city is a favorite destination for visitors due to the fact that here one finds the Plaza de los Ponchos which is a huge artisans’ market that offers wool clothing, jewelry, and sculptures all of which are locally produced. Additional visits can be made to the local fruit and meat markets.  In the afternoon, an excursion to Cuicocha Lagoon, located 40 minutes from Otavalo can be taken in a chauffeur driven car.  This small lake was formed in the crater of an inactive volcano and offers a marvelous natural spectacle. Visitors will return to Quito in the late afternoon. The trip from Quito to Otavalo lasts approximately 2-3 hours not including stops.

CotopaxiDAY 4: COTOPAXI  SAQUISILÍ  BAÑOS - Thursday
Departure from the hotel with a private chauffeur driven car at 8:00 am. While traveling along the “Panamericana Sur” route, visitors are able to view the snowy peak of the Cotopaxi volcano with its perfect white cone.  Arriving at the city of Saquisilí, travelers can visit the town market, but only on Thursdays. The time spent in Saquisilí on Thursday allows visitors to get off the beaten track and experience the reality of the indigenous people of the Andes. At the many plazas scattered throughout the city, the local people carry out their daily activities. Here, animals and vegetables are bought and sold as well as cooked. Choice articles of folk art, spices and clothing can also be purchased from the vendors at the markets in the town. Every Thursday, countless indigenous people come down off the mountains to the valley where Saquisilí is located to acquire their necessities or sell their goods at the markets.  Later on in the afternoon, the tour arrives at Baños de Ambato. If there is still time, it will be possible to visit the Manto de la Novia waterfall with the chauffeur Guayaquilwhere a spectacular excursion on a cable car can be taken. Baños is a famous tourist attraction known for its thermal springs which are open to the public day and night. 

DAY 5: CHIMBORAZO  GUAYAQUIL – Friday
Departure for Guayaquil at 9:00 am. This route takes the traveler through the indigenous region of Bolivar at an altitude of almost
4000 m. above sea level offering a panorama of the magnificent scenery of the Andean valleys and cultivated mountainsides. The outstanding feature of this area is The Chimborazo, the highest volcano of Ecuador reaching an altitude of 6310 m. above sea level at its summit. Having crossed over the mountains, the road leads into the coastal region abounding in tropical scenery. Cocoa fields and banana and sugar cane plantations can be found everywhere.   After traveling for almost 5-6 hours, visitors arrive at the thriving city of Guayaquil, which has undergone a series of regeneration projects resulting in a new city. The downtown area complete with the winding Guayas River present the perfect opportunity for an afternoon stroll through the streets of Guayaquil.  A Spanish speaking guide is available upon request.

GalapagosDAY 6: THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS – Saturday
Transfer to the airport along with our guide and departure for The Galapagos Islands.  Upon arrival, visitors will be accompanied to the hotel.  The Galapagos Islands make up a unique natural paradise unlike any other in the world.  The wildlife wandering along the paths and beaches of the Enchanted Islands cannot escape. Here, it is not unusual to swim with a sea lion or a giant sea turtle. The Galapagos Islands is a national park, therefore visitors must observe the rules and follow the instructions given by the guides. Having settled in to the hotel, a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station with its Galapagos Giant tortoises is a must.

DAY 7: THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS – Sunday
Morning departure and excursion by boat to visit one of the islands of the archipelago in the company of a specialized guide from the National Park Service.  These excursions require the active participation of the visitors and include navigating the Galapagosterrain on hiking trails, relaxing moments on the beach, swimming in the ocean and for those who are adventurous, masks can be rented for snorkeling.  Encounters with the indigenous wildlife are continuous and the rocky terrain of the islands is volcanic in origin.  For trekking around the islands, it is necessary to wear comfortable footwear.  Lunch is included on the boat and the return to the hotel is scheduled for the afternoon. The planned program includes Plazas – Punta Carrión or North Seymour – Bachas. The program of activities is subject to change due to situations beyond the control of the tour operators. The final schedule of activities will be delivered before departure from the tour’s point of origin.

DAY 8: THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS – Monday
Scheduled activities will follow the same plan as the previous day, instead visiting Bartolomé Island.

DAY 9: THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS – Tuesday
GalapagosLeisure time in the Galapagos Islands. Today, it will be possible to spend the day relaxing on the white sand of the beach at Tortuga Bay. Visitors can savor the experience of a pristine natural setting basking in the sun in or enjoying a swim in the sea. As an alternative to a day at the beach, we offer the possibility of a choice of excursions to other islands in Puerto Ayora not yet visited.  For scuba diving enthusiasts, we offer rental service of the necessary equipment (fees not included in tour prices).

DAY 10: THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS  QUITO (OR GUAYAQUIL) – Wednesday
Final hours on the islands; transfer to the airport and flight to Quito or Guayaquil where visitors will arrive in the afternoon. 

DAY 11: QUITO (OR GUAYAQUIL) AIRPORT - Thursday
Leisure time.  Individual transfer to airport 3 hours before departure of intercontinental flight.

DAY 12: POINT OF ORIGIN – Friday

It is mandatory to purchase travel insurance that is essential in case of misfortune, accident or illness during the tour. Under no circumstances will Mashipura cover any unforeseen expenditures of this nature.

DISCOVERING ECUADOR

The classic tour of the Ecuadorian Andes takes travelers by train – Tren de los Andes – first to the amazing Incan ruins of Ingapirca and then on the city of Cuenca before continuing along the coast to Guayaquil. This excursion departs from Baños de Ambato.

Valle del Angel

2 VALLE DEL ANGEL RESERVE
After having visited Otavalo, the tour continues on to Ibarra.  The following day, travelers will visit the magnificent El Angel Reserve which is considered one of the most spectacular areas that typifies the Ecuadorian Andes. Within this high mountainous region, the condor can be observed as it soars through the skies.  The flora of this zone is represented in all its glory by the “frailejones”, the massive flowers found only in this nature reserve of Ecuador.  On the third day of this excursion, travelers will return to Quito where they will visit the Mitad Del Mundo (Middle of the World) monument.

Tsachilas3 THE TSACHILAS AND QUILOTOA
The Tsáchila tribe of Indians, erroneously known as “los Colorados” (the red ones), are an ethnic group that live in the rainforest near the city of Santo Domingo and to this day maintain their ancestral traditions. This tour offers visitors the opportunity to spend one night among the Tsáchilas in their community, sharing their traditions and spirituality while taking part in a purification ritual and experiencing a natural sauna. Travelers will spend the night in a typical Tsáchila hut with limited creature comforts.
The next day, travelers will return to the Andes region where they will reach the destination of the Quilotoa Lake, which is one of the most spectacular places in this part of Ecuador. Visitors will then spend the night in Tigua, sleeping near a cozy mountain hacienda.
On the third day of the trip travelers will arrive at Baños de Ambato.

This is a 1-day tour to visit one of the most sensational places typical of the Andes. Quilotoa is a large lake situated within the crater of an inactive volcano set in one of the most traditional regions of the indigenous culture of Ecuador. This tour departs from Quito the day before the scheduled stop at Baños de Ambato. Visitors will spend the night in the city of Latacunga and travel by private transportation.

This is a short excursion to spend the day at an elegant hacienda located on a banana plantation immersed in tropical vegetation which is home to buffalo and ostrich.  In the afternoon, visitors may go horseback riding if they so choose (included in the cost). Lunch at the hacienda is included.  The tour leaves from Guayaquil and is scheduled for the day before departure for the Galápagos Islands or upon return from the Archipelago.

Cuicocha7  TREKKING CUICOCHA -  TRAIL RIDING  -  COMMUNITY TOURISM
From Quito travelers reach the city of Otavalo where they will be guests in the home of a local family belonging to the Cotacachi community (an optional separate entrance to a room with two (2) beds and a fireplace). Guests will dine with the family. Next morning, visitors set off on an excursion to Cuicocha Lake where they will trek around the lake, taking approximately four (4) hours for this journey which is made easier through the leadership of a local guide. A pack lunch is included. In the afternoon, visitors will return to the house where they are staying and have dinner.  On the last day of the tour, travelers have a choice between visiting the local market of Otavalo and going on a horseback ride. The return trip to Quito will be by private transportation. Community-based tourism is a proposal aimed at the equitable development of the local population while at the same time allowing the visitors to experience the reality and traditions of the natives by way of spontaneous interaction with the families of the province of Imbabura.
It is also possible to spend the night at a hotel in Otavalo if the traveler so chooses (in this case, dinners are not included in the cost).

Cotopaxi9  COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK
A one-day outing to visit the Cotopaxi National Park that will transport the traveler to where the summit of the Cotopaxi volcano (5897 m / 19,350 ft) towers above an attractive mountainous setting. Visitors can undertake a hike through the park in the company of an expertly trained guide where, for the hardy traveler, it is possible to reach the Ribas Refuge.  The trail to the refuge is not overly challenging but the altitude could affect the hiker (4800 m / 15,750 ft). The return trip to Quito will be in the afternoon by private transportation (included).

Trekking Inka Trail

10 TREKKING ON THE INCA TRAIL
The Inca Empire consisted of an extended network of trails that connected the boundaries of the conquered territory. The Inca Trail that stretched from Cusco to Ingapirca and finally reaching Quito is still to this day navigable.  Our proposed trek lasts three (3) days and leads travelers through some of the most spectacular and pristine Andean regions of Ecuador. Hiking the trail is not too strenuous due to the fact that visitors walk for an average of five (5) hours per day but the altitude of approximately 4000 m / 13,120 ft may have an adverse effect on hikers. For the trek, travelers will be accompanied by an expert guide and all baggage will be transported by burro. Camping equipment (tents, cook stove, etc.) and accommodation are included in cost of tour. This excursion will take place after having visited Baños and before going to Cuenca and Guayaquil. We recommend this excursion only for those hikers who are in top physical condition. Private transportation provided.

Imbabura11 TREKKING IMBABURA
After a 2-day trek visitors will arrive at the community of La Esperanza which is situated at nearly 3000 m / 9843 ft above sea level in the province of Imbabura. The trip will then continue up to the summit of the Imbabura volcano which reaches an altitude of 4610 m / 15,120 ft above sea level.  It will be necessary to hike between 5-6 hours in order to reach the peak of the volcano.  Having accomplished this fantastic feat, the return trip down will begin.  Dinner will follow and the night will be spent camping out, sleeping in a tent. The following day, travelers will move on to Otavalo arriving in the afternoon. From Otavalo, visitors will be transferred to Quito. This excursion begins after having visited Otavalo at the outset of the tour. We recommend this trip only for those hikers who are in top physical condition.

Mindo12 BIRD WATCHING IN MINDO
Mindo is recognized as a true paradise for bird watching in Ecuador.  Within the cloud forest, where the climate is characteristically sub-tropical, one can find more than 400 different species of birds and experience the incredible biodiversity unique to this region.  This tour departs from Quito and can be undertaken before or after the trip to the Galápagos Islands. Cotopaxi bike13 MOUNTAIN BIKING COTOPAXI
This tour departs from Quito with the Cotopaxi National Park as its destination.  Reaching an altitude of 4500 m / 14,760 ft by car, visitors may then begin the descent to 3700 m / 12,140 ft by mountain bike that will take them approximately 4 hours.  The road itself does not present major obstacles but it is a dirt road considered to be suitable only for experienced mountain bikers. The excursion departs from Quito and can be taken at the outset or after the trip to the Galápagos Islands. Private transportation provided.

In addition to the amazing Andean Region of Ecuador, there is the extensive Amazon Rainforest open to travelers to explore.  Contrary to the physical and geographical conditions present in other countries of South America, the Rainforest of Ecuador is relatively easy to get to either by air or land. For this reason Ecuador is considered privileged to be able to offer the marvelous opportunity to visit the summits of the mountainous region and within a matter of hours, reach the land of mysterious cultures and thick vegetation of the Amazon Rainforest.  Mashipura offers the possibility to visit this region experiencing the reality of the rough accommodations of the traditional indigenous hut or staying in more comfortable lodges. The published rates are only good for an extension of the Ecuador / Galápagos Islands Tour.
